Una gestión nefasta, acompañada de una planificación nula en la confección de la plantilla, han terminado por descender al Real Valladolid un año después de haber ascendido. ¿Qué ha ocurrido en Pucela para tener este desenlace?
Muchos cambios y poco fútbol
La temporada de vuelta en LaLiga comenzaba con un Ronaldo Nazario más centrado en expandir la imagen del club por el mundo que en mantener contenta a su afición. La primera polémica llegó con un cambio de escudo que la afición no aceptó desde que se amagó con hacerlo en abril. De todos modos, la permuta oficial no llegaría hasta el verano, y la reacción de la masa blanquivioleta no tardó en producirse. El nuevo emblema no gustó, se sintió como un intento de alejar al club de la ciudad, ya que perdía similitudes con el escudo de la misma.

Por otra parte, la planificación de plantilla tampoco ha ayudado. El conjunto vallisoletano ha perdido la categoría con nueve jugadores que ya estaban en aquel equipo que también bajo hace dos temporadas. Otro dato destacable es que en muchas jornadas, el once inicial estaba repleto de jugadores que formaban parte de la plantilla que había ascendido el año anterior. Una gestión que demuestra pasividad a la hora de contratar jugadores. Los fichajes veraniegos no han rendido lo esperado, error que se subsanó en invierno con la llegada de Cyle Larin, Martin Hongla o Selim Amallah, entre otros.
Por último, la destitución de Pacheta. Un cambio que se entiende más por orgullo en el palco que por necesidad. El técnico burgalés tenía al equipo fuera del descenso, con un fútbol un tanto irregular, pero que mantenía a los blanquivioletas fuera de la zona roja. Ronaldo Nazario, tras la goleada que sufrió el Real Valladolid ante el Real Madrid, decidió cesar al entrenador que los había ascendido. Su sustituto fue Paulo Pezzolano. Sin experiencia en estos contextos, el uruguayo se ha visto envuelto en un brete del que no ha podido salir airoso.
El «efecto» Paulo Pezzolano
Llegó con el objetivo de salvar al equipo del descenso, no lo ha conseguido. Sus tres primeros partidos frente al club fueron un soplo de aire fresco e incluso se empezó a hablar del «efecto Pezzolano». Un «efecto» que resultó ser un espejismo, ya que duró la friolera de 3 partidos. Sumó 7/9 puntos y a partir de ahí, con una plaga de lesiones de por medio, cuesta abajo y sin frenos.
La racha para el olvido empezó el 27 de abril en Mestalla. El clamoroso error de Jordi Masip, dejando pasar un balón a gol pensando que iba fuera, condenó al pucela a perder los tres puntos. El golpe anímico fue de tal magnitud que ni la plantilla, ni Paulo Pezzolano fueron capaces de reponerse. Encadenaron 4 derrotas más en menos de un mes, metiendo al Real Valladolid en una pelea por el descenso de la que parecía difícil salir por forma, fe y actitud.
En ese infame periodo, las actuaciones arbitrales tampoco ayudaron al conjunto vallisoletano. Se vieron perjudicados ante el Sevilla tras ver como el colegiado pitaba el final después de un chut de Sergio Escudero, que acabaría en gol. Ese ejemplo es uno de tantos de los que han sufrido los blanquivioletas a lo largo de esta campaña.

Después de esa mala racha, el conjunto dirigido por Paulo Pezzolano consiguió reponerse venciendo a un FC Barcelona ya campeón. Esta victoria les otorgaba el privilegio de depender de si mismos en la penúltima jornada, viajando al campo de un Almería que era el rival directo por no descender. Un empate en tierras mediterráneas no sirvió y el Real Valladolid dejó las tareas para la última jornada.
