Matteo Darmian, de ‘mata pájaros’ a lograr el Scudetto

Parece que Matteo Darmian vuelve a ser aquel jugador que deslumbró en las filas del Torino hace casi ya una década. Su espectacular nivel como lateral le hizo poder dar el salto a un club mucho más grande: el Manchester United. Pese a no lograr demostrar su nivel en el club inglés, a día de hoy vuelve a brillar en las filas del Inter de Milán.

 

Los primeros pasos de Matteo Darmian

Matteo Darmian debutaría con el Torino en la Serie A con 22 años, un año después de  ascender. Sus tres temporadas en la máxima categoría del fútbol italiano le valdrían para dar el paso a un club mucho más grande, por lo que pronto comenzarían a llegar ofertas a la ciudad de Turín. Mediante un contrato para las próximas cuatro temporadas, el Manchester United lograría hacerse con los servicios del polivalente defensa por 18 millones de euros. Comenzaba el gran reto de la Premier League para lateral italiano.

Los ‘Diablos Rojos’ contaban con Louis Van Gaal en el banquillo en aquella temporada. Un técnico como Van Gaal puede asustar en primera estancia. Pero el holandés parecía más que contento con la llegada del carrilero italiano.  Así daría Van Gaal la bienvenida a Darmian:

“Matteo es un lateral derecho que también puede jugar a la izquierda. Es un defensa fuerte también en la faceta ofensiva, una cualidad fantástica que necesitamos en un campeonato de alto ritmo como la Premier League. Dará una ayuda importante al equipo. No veo la hora de trabajar con él”.

 

Más sombras que luces en Manchester

Su primera temporada en Premier League sería buena, pero todo cambiaría con la llegada de Jose Mourinho al banquillo. Con el portugués comenzó a perder protagonismo en el campo. Una pérdida que no sentaba bien para el italiano, pero que siempre ha respetado:

“No sé por qué no estoy jugando. El entrenador toma decisiones y nosotros tenemos que aceptarlas. Siempre trabajo duro y doy lo mejor de mí para cuando el míster cuente conmigo.”

Tal fue su pérdida de nivel y protagonismo, que su mayor recuerdo con la camiseta del Manchester United fue matar un pájaro. Sí, matar un pájaro en pleno partido de un pelotazo. Ocurrió en el año 2018 durante un amistoso contra San José Earthquakes. Este acto sin intención alguna fue uno de los momentos más recordados de Matteo Darmian en Manchester. El lateral pasó de ser un defensa codiciado por grandes equipos europeos, a ser recordado por la accidental muerte de un pájaro en pleno partido.

 

 

Pero por suerte, la segunda oportunidad llegó a las botas de Darmian. Lograría salir del club inglés a su destino favorito, la Serie A. Sin embargo, aun habiendo sonado para equipos como Juventus, Milan o Inter de Milán, se pondría a las órdenes del Parma.

 

La redención de Matteo Darmian en la Serie A

Un club modesto como el Parma podría no ser el destino soñado por Matteo Darmian para su vuelta a Italia, pero le concedía la oportunidad de poder jugar sin presión alguna. Y tras una temporada de redención, llegaría al Inter de Milán de Antonio Conte.

 

 

Su nivel mostrado en Milán no deja nada que envidiar al de la pasada campaña. Pese a comenzar la temporada como suplente, ha conseguido contar con muchos más minutos en este final de temporada. Conte le ha devuelto la confianza a un Matteo Darmian que vuelve a levantar el título de liga para el Inter de Milán 11 años después. De hecho, su solitario gol contra el Hellas Verona daría otros 3 valiosos puntos en la lucha por el titulo liguero.Esta temporada ha conseguido, hasta el momento, 4 goles y 2 asistencias. Después de marcar el gol de la victoria frente al Cagliari y valer su gol 3 puntos más en la tabla, su entrenador le dedicaría estas palabras:

“Creo que merece jugar. Es un jugador profesional. Disfruté con él durante mi época en la selección italiana y pienso que debe jugar la próxima Eurocopa.”

Siendo uno de los principales suplentes durante gran parte de la temporada, en las últimas fechas ha pasado a tener todavía más importancia. Una pieza fundamental con el Antonio Conte puede contar para cualquier rotación defensiva.

 

¿Cómo juega Matteo Darmian?

La polivalencia es sin duda uno de sus puntos fuertes. Su capacidad para jugar en ambos laterales le hacen un jugador muy útil para su entrenador. Todavía más útil es al poder jugar también en la posición de central. Un jugador como él ha permitido al conjunto de Antonio Conte contar con un ‘comodín’ en la parcela defensiva. Un jugador profesional, de esos tipos que siempre trabajan duro. Aunque la situación no esté de su parte.

Su juego defensivo y experiencia en la liga italiana viene ‘como anillo al dedo’ para el conjunto nerazzurro. Puede desempeñar un papel importante en ataque si el encuentro lo exige, pero también rendir a buen nivel en el esquema de 3 centrales de Conte. Tal ha sido la confianza que ha depositado su entrenador en él, que su juego ha explotado este final de temporada dando goles vitales al Inter. Goles que valen oro para la conquista del título liguero.

Pese a todos los giros que ha dado su carrera futbolística, Darmian ha conseguido volver a demostrar su gran nivel y hacerse con un título que hasta ahora parecía imposible: el Scudetto. Se podría decir que la suerte parece haberle cambiado. Tras un paso silencioso por Inglaterra, ha conseguido levantar el título de liga con el Inter de Milán 11 años después. Una hazaña histórica y de la que el defensa italiano ha sido un importante partícipe. Hecho que bien puede valerle una convocatoria para la próxima Eurocopa.
