Que el Celta de Vigo es un equipo especial para “los otros” no se le escapa a nadie. Con Iago Aspas como la definición perfecta de underdog, el equipo celeste es uno de los abanderados. Sí, además, manejan nombres exóticos en el mercado de fichajes, doble acierto.

Hoy no toca hablar de leyendas vikingas. Vamos un paso más allá. Luca de la Torre ya está en Vigo, con una misión entre ceja y ceja: ser el pilar del centro del campo. Uno de esos pilares que sostenía el templo de Hércules.

 

Luca de la Torre, el complemento de Fran Beltrán para la medular

Una vez cerradas las incorporaciones de Swedberg y Óscar Rodríguez el Celta carecía de un interior puro. Ambos son muy polivalentes y pueden ocupar esa posición, pero de la Torre es eminentemente un centrocampista puro. Es posible pensar en él como el jugador que ayudará a Fran Beltrán a la hora de defender y sacar la pelota desde atrás. También tiene opciones de caer a banda izquierda, como falso extremo, desde donde pone centros medidos a los rematadores. Un jugador curtido en el fútbol inglés, cosa que le otorga una conducción elegante y un poderío físico notorio.

Comenzó su carrera en Londres, en las categorías inferiores del Fulham, un club acostumbrado a ascender y descender en la Premier League. Sin haber pisado la máxima categoría del fútbol inglés, sí que ha debutado en la liga de filiales. Un total de 69 apariciones con 12 dianas anotadas y 6 asistencias con los sub23 de los cottagers. Sí que llegó a acumular unos minutos en Championship y EFL Cup, formando parte de la primera plantilla del Fulham.

Para completar su desarrollo puso rumbo a la Eredivise. Es allí donde jugó para el dios Hércules, concretamente en el Heracles Almelo. Ya en el gran escaparate del fútbol europeo, Luca de la Torre jugó un total de 64 partidos en Países Bajos. Allí anotó solo 2 goles combinados con 3 asistencias. Números notablemente más bajos que los conseguidos en las islas británicas, pero relacionado con el rol desarrollado. Aquí retrasó su posición para ser la manija del equipo, aumentó la producción de juego sacrificando sus registros personales.

 

 

Hispanoamericano e hijo de la ciencia

Una de las curiosidades de Luca de la Torre es que, pese a su condición de norteamericano, no ocupa plaza de extracomunitario. Gracias a que su padre nació en Canarias goza de la doble nacionalidad, española y estadounidense. Si te preguntas si es seleccionable por la selección de Luis Enrique, la respuesta es no. Es fijo en las convocatorias de USA desde que debutó en 2018. Cuando se habla de la selección yankee como un equipo joven con proyección, Luca de la Torre es uno de esos motivos.

Luca es hijo único, pero fruto de un matrimonio sorprendente. Sus padres se llaman Juan de la Torre y Anne Bang. Quizás estos nombres no nos digan nada. Sin embargo, estamos hablando de dos grandes investigadores. Su padre recibió el doctorado en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid y es profesor en el Departamento de Inmunología y Microbiología del Scripps Research Institute en San Diego.

Por otro lado, su madre es doctora por la Universidad de California – San Diego. Además, es directora de Biología de Células Madre en el Centro Conrad Prebys de Genómica Química del instituto de Investigación Médica Sanford – Burnham. Toda la vida rodeado de números y métricas explicaría la precisión de Luca en el pase y los centros.

 

 

¿Cómo juega Luca de la Torre?: Un tutti-fruti de estilos futbolísticos para Coudet

Nacido en San Diego, California, explica que nacer en una localización fronteriza le nutrió en el estilo y forma de entender el fútbol. El contacto con los amigos mejicanos le hizo entender la esencia azteca en el balompié. Luego, en su desarrollo, aprendió las bases de los padres del fútbol en Inglaterra. Finalmente, en Países Bajos, puso la rúbrica de la elegancia a todas sus herramientas.

Ya en Vigo, a las órdenes de Coudet, habrá que ver cómo se adapta a La Liga. Sin experiencia previa en España, pero con un repertorio amplio de recursos, «el Chacho» ha encontrado en él una solución.

Apuntan que no partirá como titular, pero que puede ser un gran jugador que acabaría haciéndose un hueco en el once. Habrá que seguir muy de cerca su evolución esta temporada. Podemos estar hablando de una de las grandes sorpresas de la primera vuelta del campeonato. Condiciones para ello tiene. De sobra. Veremos si este pilar, pulido por Hércules, sostiene el centro del campo de todo un Celta de Vigo.
