Nacido en Lodi, un pueblo de Lombardía, pronto comenzó a destacar a nivel local, llamando la atención del Piazenca. Posteriormente fue el Brescia quien descubrió el enorme talento que tenía el joven Sandro y lo reclutó para sus filas. Recordemos que por Brescia han pasado jugadores de la talla de Pirlo o Roberto Baggio. Sandro Tonali fue progresando por todas y cada una de las categorías del fútbol juvenil, hasta llegar a debutar con el primer equipo con la friolera edad de 17 años. Fue frente al Avellino en la primera jornada de la Serie B de la temporada 2017/2018.
Su primer gol como profesional llegó esa misma temporada, en el mes de abril, en un encuentro frente a la Salernitana. Sus números fueron notables para ser su primera temporada en la élite y en la siguiente se consagró, ayudando al Brescia a conseguir el ascenso a Serie A.
El liderazgo y alma de Sandro Tonali en las selecciones inferiores
Al destacar en el fútbol profesional tan joven, pronto se ganó la convocatoria de la Azzurra en sus categorías inferiores. Formó parte de la selección Sub 19 italiana que quedo subcampeona en el campeonato de Europa de 2018, disputado en Finlandia. Además fue incluido en el XI Ideal de dicha competición. En noviembre de ese mismo año fue llamado por Roberto Mancini para la convocatoria con la selección absoluta, pero no llegó a debutar.
La temporada pasada disputo el Europeo sub 21, de la cual Italia fue sede. Pese a ello, la selección no pudo pasar de la fase de grupos, aunque Sandro Tonali fue uno de los jugadores destacados de esa selección junto a Federico Chiesa.El 15 de octubre llegó tan esperado debut con la selección absoluta, pues Tonali entró en el minuto 75 del partido frente a Liechestein para sustituir a Bernardeschi significando esos 15 minutos los primeros de muchos con Italia.
Un mezzala al más puro estilo del Calcio
Para entrar en materia, debemos saber primero que es un Mezzala. Este rol, predominante en el Calcio, consiste en un jugador de excelso toque de balón el cual actúa el mediocentro defensivo del campo pero con libertad de espacios y a su misma vez, caída a banda. A la hora de la salida de balón, Sandro Tonali se integra entre centrales para facilitar la circulación y salida de balón de una forma mas efectiva. Pero si por algo se caracteriza Sandro es por su gran inteligencia. Tanto en largo como en corto, sabe como y cuando dar ese tipo de pase.
En defensa todo lo que hace es de manera efectiva. Sabe ir al suelo con inteligencia, algo complicado para un chico de su edad además de saber cuando tiene que aguantar la posición a la espera de la ayuda de algún compañero. Sandro Tonali es un jugador diestro, pero si se lo propone, es capaz de poner un balón diagonal a 40 metros con la pierna izquierda. Esa es otra de sus grandes características, el desplazamiento de balón.
Si nada se tuerce, este año acabará saliendo de un Brescia que tiene muy complicada su salvación en Serie A. Veremos donde vuela el nuevo mirlo de creación italiana. De hecho, ya tiene varias ofertas de clubes importantes europeos, como es el caso del FC Barcelona, quien ofrece 60 millones por el mediocentro del futuro.
