El Norwich City se sitúa último en la Premier League, pero eso no le quita que en sus filas tengan buenos jugadores, y aquí es donde entra Todd Cantwell, el joven maravilla de los ‘Canaries’.
Cantwell es un joven inglés de 22 años, un extremo con muchísimo talento y potencial que está bajo los ojos de todo el mundo, sobretodo de los ingleses, ya que podría ser la siguiente gran pieza de la selección y del país.

Directamente desde Dereham encontramos a un pequeño Cantwell que la rompía en sus equipos amateur, el extremo tuvo grandísimas contribuciones para los equipos menores en los que jugó. Pero hablemos un poco más de él, Todd nació en una ciudad a 33 minutos de Norwich, la ya mencionada Dereham, donde vivió parte de su vida junto a sus padres y hermanos. Desde pequeño tuvo el fútbol en su cabeza, sus papás fanáticos del Arsenal le traspasaron este fanatismo por el fútbol, como en muchas familias británicas.
La cultura futbolística pasó de generación a generación y Cantwell hizo lo posible para hacer éste sueño una realidad. Con tan sólo 16 años debutó en la selección U17 de Inglaterra en 2014 y solo 3 años después, sería convocado con el primer equipo del Norwich.
El paso de Cantwell por Holanda y su explosión en Norwich
En el 2018 debutó profesionalmente en la FA Cup con el Norwich ante el Chelsea, unos días antes de cumplir sus 20 años. Esa misma temporada salió cedido al Fortuna Sittard de la Eredivisie, donde jugó 10 partidos y marcó 2 goles. El inglés mostró su nivel en las pocas oportunidades que tuvo y volvió a su equipo para ayudarlos en el ascenso a Premier.
Cantwell en la temporada 18/19 no tuvo mucha contribución goleadora, pero sí mostró cualidades que asombraron y cosas que necesitaba el Norwich, el regate y la explosividad por banda que tenía no era normal. En Championship anotó 1 gol y dio 2 asistencias en 24 partidos.
Sorprendentemente en Premier League es donde obtuvo mejores registros y donde está mostrando aún más su potencial. El jugador inglés registra 6 goles y 2 asistencias en 29 partidos, siendo uno de los mejores jugadores jóvenes de la temporada, y uno de los mejores ingleses.
¿Cómo juega Cantwell?
Dinámico. Esa sería la palabra que define a la perfección al extremo. La Premier League parece haberle quedado pequeña en su primera temporada en la máxima categoría, Cantwell está arrasando y destrozando rivales. Es un jugador muy explosivo, con un regate de lujo, en cualquier momento te puede sacar a bailar y no darte ni cuenta. Es un jugador muy complicado de defender para las zagas rivales. Su drible es algo inusual, en cualquier momento se inventa algo y sale del paso, algún giro a lo Zidane o una elástica para salir de la presión entre dos jugadores que te deja boquiabierto. Tiene gol y se posiciona muy bien, arranca mejor desde la banda y hacia el desborde.
Sus cualidades no son secreto para nadie, de hecho, mucha gente lo pide para que al menos esté considerado para la siguiente Eurocopa con Inglaterra que, de seguir en éste nivel probablemente sea un jugador clave en el esquema de Southgate. El pequeño chico de Dereham tiene muchos candidatos detrás de él, grandes equipos de la Premier lo buscan y estarían dispuestos a pagar mucho dinero.
¿Quedarse en Norwich?
Si algo hay que tener claro es que, Todd Cantwell no es un Jack Grealish, un jugador que parece convertirse en icono de su club y hasta hay posibilidades de que no salga. Cantwell es un chico de padres aficionados al Arsenal, y la alegría de éstos sería verlo allí. Lo siguen muy de cerca Liverpool y Manchester United, dos equipos al que le caería muy bien pero que tendría que luchar por su puesto, sobretodo en el primero.
