Simón Moreno ha vivido un calvario de lesiones y a pesar de ello ha podido asentarse en La Liga Smartbank, en un equipo referente a nivel de gestión como el Mirandés. Tras superar un momento complicado en el que pasó por Almería y Málaga en el mismo verano sin llegar a debutar, ha podido hacer carrera en la categoría de plata al igual que su hermano Joselu, actual delantero del Lugo.
Tras su segunda lesión de rodilla en un plazo de dos temporadas, el Mirandés le ha renovado de forma automática, mostrando un buen gesto por parte de los jabatos.
El Mirandés salvó a Simón Moreno
A pesar de ser de Cartaya, un municipio de la provincia de Huelva, Simón Moreno se formó futbolísticamente en el Villarreal. Pasó entre el Villarreal C y el filial desde la 15/16 hasta la 19/20, destacando su temporada previa a intentar dar el salto a La Liga Smartbank, donde anotó 13 goles. Un intento que se vio frustrado por culpa de dos jeques, pero que tuvo solución en la campaña siguiente.
En la 20/21 el Cartagena, recién ascendido en ese momento, le dio la oportunidad en forma de cesión para complementar la delantera junto a Rubén Castro, aunque debido a su poco protagonismo y un rendimiento algo decepcionante a nivel goleador acabó en un acuerdo de salida tras finalizar el préstamo en el mercado invernal. Ahí apareció el Mirandés con su director deportivo Chema Aragón, pidiendo la cesión durante lo que quedaba de curso y firmándole libre en propiedad en este último periodo de fichajes.

Un infierno de verano creado por dos jeques
El verano de 2019 fue un infierno para él. Comenzó el mes de julio siendo jugador del Villarreal pero unos días más tarde firmó por el Almería. El fichaje, al igual que otros como Peybernes o Yanis Rahmani, se dio justo antes de que llegara el jeque ese mismo verano. Turki Al-Sheikh, nuevo propietario, terminó con la rescisión del acuerdo de cesión porque no quería tener en la plantilla a futbolistas cedidos por los que no existiera una opción de compra.
A pesar de tener que buscar de nuevo equipo en ese mismo verano, el Málaga tocó a su puerta tras no poder firmar a Okazaki a pesar de ser incluso presentado. Simón Moreno llegó a entrenarse con el equipo, en aquel momento entrenado por Víctor Sánchez del Amo, pero otro jeque, Al-Thani, volvió a vetar la operación. El delantero terminó volviendo al Villarreal B tras esta concatenación de sucesos.
El triste calvario de lesiones en momentos clave
Cuando todo parecía haber terminado, Simón Moreno remató su mal verano con una lesión grave de rodilla a comienzos de temporada con el filial del Villarreal, en concreto en noviembre, donde estaba marcando goles a pesar de la mala experiencia estival. El onubense tardó 10 meses en marcar y lo hizo curiosamente, contra el primer equipo del Villarreal, en un partido de pretemporada con el Cartagena.
La semana pasada el ahora jugador del Mirandés volvió a vivir una mala experiencia tras romperse el ligamento cruzado anterior de la rodilla frente al Valladolid en el José Zorrilla. Tras conocer la gravedad y el alcance de la lesión, los jabatos han querido contar con él para la próxima temporada y le han ofrecido la renovación hasta junio de 2023. Alfredo de Miguel, presidente del conjunto rojillo ha sido quien ha trasladado, tanto a la dirección deportiva como al propio jugador, su deseo de que continúe.

¿Cómo juega Simón Moreno?
A pesar de haber tenido buenas cifras a nivel goleador en algunas temporadas, en concreto con el filial del Villarreal en Segunda B o en este inicio de campaña con el Mirandés donde ha anotado 4 goles y dado 1 asistencia, Simón Moreno no es un delantero centro al uso. Destaca por ser un segunda punta muy móvil capaz de caer o partir desde banda, intercambiando posiciones con los extremos o bajando a recibir, abandonando la zona del nueve para después llegar y sorprender.
Es un delantero capaz de jugar en solitario o acompañado con otro nueve, pero que suele estar destinado a un trabajo coral y no tanto individual, siendo inteligente a la hora de leer los espacios y cumplir los roles que se le pidan según las circunstancias y equipos. De hecho esta temporada ha completado 1,5 regates, el 65% de los que intenta por partido.
