Parecía que, por fin, Robert Moreno y Granada lograban entenderse. La sombra de Diego Martínez era alargada, pero el motor nazarí empezaba a carburar. 27 jornadas duró Robert Moreno en el cargo. Tras el buen sprint otoñal, poco a poco fue perdiendo fuelle. Parecía no ser suficiente el esfuerzo, puesto que la buena racha no conseguía prolongarse. Llegados a este punto, Torrecilla entra en escena. El partido frente al Valencia fue el último para el exseleccionador, dejando paso a un gran conocedor de la casa, ya que desde 2017 fue el encargado del filial y el juvenil granadino.
Tan solo seis jornadas, casi dos meses en el cargo, Rubén Torrecilla deja de ser el entrenador principal. Cierto es que, con él, el Granada no conoció el descenso hasta que dejó el cargo. Para el tramo final el elegido fue Aitor Karanka. Tras buenos resultados (incluso una gran goleada al Mallorca), todo parecía ir sobre ruedas. A expensas de la última jornada, todo parecía indicar que firmarían la permanencia. Pero, como hemos podido comprobar, ni con todo de cara pudieron solventar la situación y el Granada desciende a Segunda División.
De hacer historia en Europa al descenso
Cierto es que la gran parte de la plantilla jugó en Europa la temporada anterior. Sin embargo, se sabía que muchas bajas iban a tener difícil reemplazo. Más allá del entrenador, la portería era otra de las grandes dudas. Rui Silva puso rumbo al Betis y llegaba otro felino portugués a echar el cerrojo. Luis Maximiano, uno de los jugadores revelación de la temporada pese a la catástrofe, ha conseguido cuajar una más que notable actuación en La Liga.
Sin embargo, ninguno de los jugadores que desembarcaron antes del 31 de agosto ha conseguido dar un rendimiento a la altura de las circunstancias. Bacca no ha aportado los goles tan necesarios para el Granada, Monchu no ha sabido ser la promesa que necesitaban en la medular para olvidar a Yangel Herrera y la defensa ha hecho aguas. Con el año nuevo llegaron Álex Collado, Petrovic, Uzuni y Arezo. Jugadores de recorrido internacional además de una joven promesa del fútbol español. Parecía claro que, con estos jugadores y los mimbres ya en posesión, el Granada daría el paso necesario. Sin embargo, no fue así.

Es evidente que después de todo el año el balance es fácil de hacer. El objetivo no se ha conseguido. Ni siquiera ha estado cerca de lograrse. Pero, hay que ir más allá. Si consigue mantener gran parte del plantel de cara a La Liga Smartbank puede ser presumiblemente “fácil” pensar un regreso rojiblanco más pronto que tarde. Habrá que estar atento a este verano, revisar el mercado y la renovación de plantilla que hagan en la ciudad de la Alhambra. “Los otros” pierden a uno de sus máximos exponentes la pasada campaña, un equipo “pequeño” con un gran coraje y capaz de estar a la altura de los mejores en Europa.
