Renato Sanches, la joven promesa que sorprendió a todos en sus inicios, llamado a marcar una época en el mundo del fútbol no ha conseguido cumplir con las altas expectativas que se tenían sobre él.

Benfica, nido de estrellas

Sus inicios futbolísticos empezaron en las Águilas de Musgueira, donde su espectacular rendimiento despertó el interés de los ojeadores delBenfica que terminaron fichándolo por 750 euros y 250 balones.

Su debut oficial llegaría en el año 2014 con el Benfica B, y en su segundo año consiguió consolidarse como titular indiscutible. Su buen rendimiento le llevó a ir convocado con las categorías inferiores de Portugal. Su paso por el Benfica B fue breve y viendo el nivel mostrado tanto con la selección como en la Champions League Juvenil, pasó a formar parte del primer equipo.

Desde el club portugués, convencidos de la gran proyección que tenía el jugador, decidieron renovar su contrato hasta 2021 y ascender su cláusula de rescisión hasta los 80 millones.

Con tan solo una temporada en el primer equipo despertó el interés de grandes equipos, y fue el Bayern de Múnich de Ancelotti el que terminó fichando a la perla portuguesa. El conjunto bávaro pagó al Benfica 35 millones de euros más 45 en variables.

Eurocopa 2016, de récord

Su gran año en el Benfica no solo le sirvió para fichar por un gigante como el Bayern de Múnich, sino que también consiguió formar parte de la selección absoluta y ganarse la confianza del seleccionador Fernando Santos.

En mayo de 2016 saltaba la sorpresa cuando entraba en la lista de la selección portuguesa para disputar la Eurocopa de Francia, convirtiéndose así en el jugador más joven en ser convocado para un torneo oficial (18 años y 10 meses), superando a Cristiano Ronaldo.

En el partido frente a Polonia anotaba su primer gol con Portugal batiendo otro récord y superando otra vez a su compañero Cristiano Ronaldo. Se convertía así en el tercer jugador más joven en conseguir marcar gol en un torneo oficial. A partir de este partido, en los dos siguientes semifinales y final Renato inició como titular.

La Eurocopa no solo fue importante para la carrera de Renato, sino también para Portugal que terminó ganando el trofeo. Llegar a la final supuso que Renato Sanches volviera a romper otro récord esta vez, por ser el jugador más joven en disputar una final de Eurocopa.

La Eurocopa fue su gran escenario, donde a pesar de su corta edad, demostró un gran nivel, ganando el trofeo al mejor jugador joven del torneo.

De Golden Boy a decepción en el Bayern

Tras realizar una Eurocopa de escándalo, su valor de mercado aumentó notablemente, por lo que la operación por parte del Bayern parecía que acabaría siendo muy beneficiosa para los de Múnich. Entre los aficionados bávaros ya se frotaban las manos con el gran jugador que habían fichado.

Para redondear un año de éxitos tanto colectivos como individuales, fue premiado con el Golden Boy, superando a jugadores como Rashford, Coman, Asensio, Dele Alli…

Pero, su estancia en Múnich no fue como se esperaba. En su primera temporada a las órdenes de Ancelotti, apenas disputó 25 partidos y solo 6 como titular. La poca confianza por parte del técnico italiano en el centrocampista portugués provocó que terminará saliendo cedido a final de temporada rumbo al Swansea.

En su llegada a la Premier, se esperaba una mejora de Renato, pero terminó siendo todo lo contrario. Fue una temporada nefasta, donde apenas pudo jugar en el conjunto galés debido a los diferentes problemas físicos que tuvo durante la temporada. Al término de esta, el Swansea terminó descendiendo y Renato Sanches de vuelta a Alemania.

Con su vuelta al Bayern, siguió sin tener demasiadas oportunidades de poder demostrar aquel jugador que deslumbró tanto con el Benfica como con la selección portuguesa. Después de pedir en varias ocasiones salir del Bayern, y encontrarse con la negativa por parte de la directiva, la relación fue empeorando y su rendimiento en el terreno de juego disminuyó considerablemente. Todo ello le repercutió en su papel con la selección, donde perdió su protagonismo.

«Estoy triste. Esta no es una buena situación para mí. Esta es la segunda vez que quiero irme del Bayern, pero el club no quiere hacerlo. Jugar solo cinco minutos, eso no me conviene.»

El Lille, salvador de su carrera

En el verano de 2019, Renato Sanches se convertía en nuevo jugador del Lille. El internacional portugués, firmaba un contrato hasta el 30 de junio de 2023. De esta forma finalizaba una pesadilla de tres temporadas.

El Lille apostaba fuerte por Renato, que no estaba en su mejor momento, y pagaba 25 millones para hacerse con sus servicios.

En su primera temporada, ha sorprendido gratamente por su buen rendimiento. Con el conjunto norteño ha jugado 30 partidos en los que ha conseguido anotar 4 goles. En la Ligue 1 ha vuelto a destacar, cosa que no hacía desde sus inicios.

Su buen rendimiento la temporada pasada ha provocado el interés de varios clubs, pero Gerard López, presidente del Lille, expresó en una entrevista para L’ Equipe que no está en venta.

Con 23 años tiene mucho fútbol aún en sus botas y el futuro marcará si vuelve aquella extraordinaria versión que demostró en el año 2016, cuando se presentó como uno de los jugadores más prometedores del mundo.
