A veces, la Copa de Europa deja historias románticas. Una de ellas es la del Steaua de Bucarest en el año 1986, cuando el conjunto rumano se convirtió en el primer conjunto de Europa del Este en conseguir el máximo título europeo a nivel de clubes. Lo que muchos no sabían es que fue refundado y pese a tener al FCSB en la máxima división rumana, ese conjunto no es el verdadero heredero del Steaua.

 

La mano dura de un dictador y el fútbol como vía de escape

Rumanía es un país de gran cultura futbolística. Pese a no disfrutar de grandes éxitos a nivel internacional, su liga tiene un nivel bastante aceptable con respecto al resto de Europa. Grandes jugadores han salido del país, como Gica Hagi, Adrian Mutu o Ciprian Tatarusanu, este último todavía en activo.

El Steaua ha sido siempre el club más grande de Rumanía. Tiene un total de 26 títulos nacionales, además de la mencionada Copa de Europa del año 1986. Fundado por el ejército del país caucásico, el equipo siempre ha generado cierta controversia en su forma de fichar jugadores. Al ser obligatorio el servicio militar, algunos jugadores quedaban exentos si firmaban por el Steaua.

Mediante esta vía llegaron al conjunto de la capital jugadores como Hagi, el mejor jugador de la historia del país. Otro motivo de controversia ha sido la implicación de la familia del antiguo  dictador de Rumanía, Nicolae Ceauşescu. Por medio principalmente de su hijo Valentin, el Steaua fue acusado de arreglos arbitrales y mala praxis en la compra de jugadores. Sin embargo, el progenitor del máximo mandatario rumano por entonces declaró que solo protegía a su equipo del Dinamo de Bucarest, el otro grande del país y que es propiedad del Ministerio del Interior.

 

El nacimiento de la leyenda del Steaua de Bucarest

El auge de la entidad llegó a principios de los años 80, con Emeric Jenei como técnico. Mediante un buen método de captación el Steaua reclutó a los mejores jugadores del país, haciéndose todavía más fuerte y acumulando un título liguero tras otro. Los buenos frutos de ese “reclutamiento” llevaron al equipo a disputar la Copa de Europa. Tras hacer notables actuaciones durante la temporada 1985-1986 desplegaron un juego que sorprendió a propios y extraños.

Esa Copa de Europa era un torneo atípico. Los equipos ingleses fueron excluidos de esa competición debido a la tragedia ocurrida en Heysel, por lo que el Everton, campeón de la First Division en el año anterior, no pudo participar. Pese a ello había equipos como el Bayern de Múnich, el FC Barcelona, la Juventus de Turín o el Ajax.

 

Un campeón salido de los cárpatos

Tuvo suerte el conjunto rumano, que fue emparejado en primera ronda con el Velje danés, a quien eliminó por un global de 5-2. En la siguiente ronda su rival fue el Honved de Budapest, otro de los equipos que mejor fútbol desplegaba en Europa, que también cayó a los pies de los de Emeric Jenei (2-4 en el global).

 

 

En la ronda de cuartos de final se enfrentaría a otra de las sorpresas del torneo, el Kuusysi finlandés, verdugo del Zenit soviético. Tanto sufrió que el Steaua solo pudo imponerse por 1-0 en el partido de vuelta. En las semifinales llegó el primer rival de entidad. El Anderlecht belga venía de disputar un torneo tremendo, apeando al campeón alemán, el Bayern de Múnich, en cuartos de final.

Sufrieron los rumanos. Los belgas eran un equipo muy completo y pusieron contra las cuerdas a un Steaua que pese a pasarlo realmente mal fue capaz de sobreponerse a la situación y seguir haciendo historia al clasificarse para la final. Enfrente tendría un FC Barcelona al que le había costado mucho llegar a la final y que previamente había eliminado a Spartak de Praga, Oporto, Juventus y Goteborg.

La final, que se disputaría en Sevilla, fue un partido extraño. El FC Barcelona salió atenazado por los propios nervios de disputar una final, mientras que el Steaua, consciente de sus opciones y su juego, demostró tener una madurez mayor a la del conjunto azulgrana. Ningún equipo consiguió anotar durante el tiempo reglamentario, por lo que el título de decidiría desde los 11 metros. Ahí surgió la figura de Duckadam, quien detuvo los cuatro lanzamientos españoles, para lograr el milagro y dar la Copa de Europa al Steaua de Bucarest.

Pero este no sería el último título de esta generación dorada, que se hizo con la Supercopa de Europa en el año 1987. Además llego de nuevo a una final europea en el año 1989, donde cayó derrotado frente al AC Milan de Sacchi.

Una ciudad unida por el sentimiento del fútbol

10 años después llegaría su época más gris. La armada rumana atravesó una enorme crisis económica. Como consecuencia de ello el equipo que administraba, el Steaua, dejó de recibir ayuda económica, por lo que desapareció.

George ‘Gigi’ Becali quiso conservar los símbolos del club con la fundación de un nuevo equipo, el FCSB (Fútbol Club Steaua de Bucarest), pero fue denunciado por el ministerio de defensa, poseedor de los símbolos del antiguo Steaua de Bucarest. El ministerio decidió actuar y fundó el Club Deportivo del Ejército Steaua de Bucarest, quien sí mantiene los símbolos del antiguo equipo campeón de Europa.

Con un equipo partido en dos, el Steaua ha perdido toda su historia en pocos años, pero sus títulos se siguen manteniendo. Muchos abogan por una unificación de ambos conjuntos pero antes de ello las aficiones tienen que limar sus diferencias.
