Un perico campeón de Europa
Con 28 años, natural de Barcelona e iniciado en los benjamines de La Masía, fue formado en la cantera del UE Cornella. Posteriormente, recaló en el juvenil del RCD Espanyol, donde estuvo durante tres campañas. En esa estancia, fue convocado por la Sub-19, siendo campeón en la Eurocopa de 2011. Edgar Badía fue titular y jugó junto a nombres reconocibles como son los de Dani Carvajal, Álvaro Morata, Pablo Sarabia u otros menos conocidos pero que fueron y son de igual importancia como José Campaña o Álex Fernández, este último, mejor jugador de aquel torneo.
Sin oportunidades en el Espanyol
Tras la conquista de ese Europeo, todo parecía indicar que sería el futuro portero de los pericos. De hecho, fue convocado bastantes veces por el primer equipo y llegó a debutar en la Copa del Rey. Sin embargo, el club apostó por un portero de más altura y corpulencia, como fue el caso de Pau López. Ante tal situación, Badía se sintió frustrado y por ello, tomó una decisión precipitada, como confesó él mismo en Sphera Sports. El guardameta reconoció que su marcha al filial del Granada fue equivocada, donde coincidió con el actual arquero del Rayo Vallecano, Stole Dimitrievski.

Tragicomedia en Reus
La etapa en Reus fue la experiencia de su vida. Con falta de oportunidades, descartado muchas veces por su altura (1,80 cm) y con la moral mermada, el equipo entrenado por Sergi Parés acude al rescate de Badía. El conjunto catalán se encontraba en Segunda B pero por suerte, consiguieron a la primera el objetivo de ascender a Segunda. Cuando la toalla parecía estar levantada para la rendición, se cayó a la lona de un plumazo. En la 2016-2017, fue uno de los mejores porteros de la categoría de plata, siendo varias veces incluido en el once ideal, quedándose a un pasito de conseguir el Zamora aquel año, superado por Raúl Fernández, del Levante.
Cuando todo parecía que finalmente había encontrado estabilidad, aparecen de nuevo los problemas. Tras tres años mágicos, el Reus fue castigado con descenso administrativo a Segunda B. Una sentencia que estuvo precedida por una campaña llena de impagos a los jugadores, al cuerpo técnico y a los empleados.
«Cuando aparece el Reus yo estaba en un momento complicado en mi carrera, porque venías de una proyección muy buena, te vas a un filial y no juegas… Para mí, Sergi Parés ha sido muy importante en mi carrera. 2020: Un año mágico para Edgar Badía
Si a Edgar Badía le dicen nada más llegar al Elche lo que viviría en la 2019/2020, probablemente le entraría una sensación de perplejidad. El portero había encontrado la felicidad en el equipo ilicitano y prueba de ello fue su renovación hasta 2022. El Elche ofreció un gran nivel pero asomó la pandemia y todo se paralizó. Tras la reanudación, el conjunto de Pacheta mantuvo una lucha infernal junto al Rayo Vallecano y el Fuenlabrada por ocupar la última posición que daba acceso a los playoffs de ascenso a Primera División. Tras el escándalo provocado por el caso del ‘Deportivo-Fuenlabrada’ y con la incertidumbre de estar quince días sin competir, finalmente el Elche jugaría la promoción.
Edgar Badía, una vez más, fue un elemento clave en los cuatro encuentros. Su actuación le hizo convertirse en el primer portero en no encajar un gol en el Playoff, superando la actuación de Mariano Barbosa con Las Palmas en la temporada 2013/2014, que dejó su portería a cero pero jugando un partido menos. Destacó especialmente en las semifinales ante el Real Zaragoza, haciendo paradas importantes, como el penalti detenido en los minutos finales en el choque disputado en La Romareda.

Badía es un portero que tiene una composición física a arqueros del fútbol sudamericano, como pueden ser Keylor Navas o Wuilker Faríñez. Con 1,80 cm de altura, es un guardameta caracteriza por tener un estilo marcado por la acrobacia y la agilidad.
