No siempre se llega a la élite gracias al talento individual o colectivo por las facilidades que te garantiza un equipo. Gonzalo Verdú no puede representar mejor este colectivo y a sus 32 años, además de ser el capitán del Elche C.F. y una referencia para los ilicitanos, es el ejemplo perfecto de la recompensa por el sacrificio que hay detrás del éxito.
Un trotamundos del fútbol modesto
Antes de llegar al Elche C.F. y ser uno de los capitanes de la entidad alicantina, Gonzalo Verdú ha recorrido varios equipos modestos para llegar hasta donde está, todo un ejemplo de que con trabajo duro todo llega.
Natural de Cartagena, comenzó allí su etapa como futbolista profesional allá por 2007, y se puede decir que ha recorrido media España debido a la gran cantidad de equipos en los que ha vestido la camiseta.
Cartagena, Pinatar, Novelda, Albacete, Osasuna, Orihuela, Córdoba, Guadalajara y ahora Elche, son los clubes por los que ha pasado el cartagenero sin realmente destacar en ninguno de forma llamativa, hasta llegar al club donde juega a día de hoy desde hace tres temporadas. Su llegada en 2017 cuando el equipo se encontraba en Segunda División B, muestran la evolución de un club y un futbolista que, gracias al esfuerzo de tantos años, se ve recompensado jugando en la élite futbolística.
Dos ascensos inolvidables para devolver al Elche a la élite
Un histórico como es el Elche C.F. se encontraba en la Segunda División B en la 17-18 después de descender por la polémica falta de pagos económicos en la 14-15 de La Liga Santander y tras dos temporadas en la La Liga Smartbank.
Con la llegada de Gonzalo Verdú al equipo, veteranía y solidez irían de la mano en las siguientes temporadas ya que su impacto fue inmediato. 41 partidos y 6 goles, además del ascenso a la Segunda División fue la carta de presentación del central, siendo uno de los pilares del equipo junto a una institución del club como Nino, además de jugadores como Sory Kaba o Benja.
Si un ascenso no es suficiente para engrandecer la carrera de un jugador, dos con el mismo club lo superan. Se presentaba la temporada 19-20 con un Elche recompuesto de aquel fatídico e injusto descenso, encontrando la regularidad en jugadores veteranos y experimentados. Pacheta a los mandos del equipo desde la temporada anterior, formó un grupo sólido, seguro atrás y con una ilusión que iría creciendo al mismo tiempo que las victorias que conseguía el club, todo ello, a pesar del límite salarial impuesto que era inferior al del resto de equipos.
Tras acabar 6º en la tabla de clasificación después de un partido de infarto entre un Deportivo de la Coruña descendido y un Fuenlabrada que si ganaba accedía a los Play-Off de ascenso, el Elche se metía en dichos Play-Off para intentar lograr una gesta histórica y volver a la máxima categoría del fútbol español. Imponiéndose primero al Zaragoza y luego al Girona, los de Pacheta consiguieron el 6º ascenso del club gracias a la entrega y compromiso de jugadores como Gonzalo Verdú, Fidel, Nino o Pere Milla.

Muchos jugadores que llegan a la Primera División se pierden por el camino por la falta de experiencia, nervios o simplemente la superioridad técnica de ciertos clubes y jugadores. Sin embargo, en este Elche no ha ocurrido así. Gonzalo Verdú está desplegando un nivel más que suficiente en estos primeros partidos demostrando una solidez que no se asocia con su debut en una categoría de tal calibre.
