Tras una etapa convulsa en la que fue apartado de los terrenos de juego e incluso ingresó en prisión, Toño García vive una segunda juventud como futbolista.
¿Quién es Toño García?
Antonio García Aranda, conocido en el mundo del fútbol como ‘’Toño’’ García, era uno de los laterales izquierdos con más proyección de nuestro país. Aunque nace en Alcalá de Henares, su andadura en el balompié está muy ligada a la Comunidad Valenciana, tierra que desde «xiquet» le apadrinó como futbolista.
En el 2008, se enroló en las filas del Atlético Saguntino, donde comenzó a escribir su peculiar historia. Un año más tarde, puso rumbo al CD Castellón, en el que debutó como profesional. Lo hizo nada más y nada menos que en el Nuevo Colombino, plaza complicada en la que los castellonenses sucumbieron ante el Decano del Fútbol Español, en un partido correspondiente a la jornada 2 de la Segunda División.
Aunque Toño se afianza en el costado izquierdo de los de La Plana, los numerosos problemas económicos del club provocan que se vaya al filial del Villarreal CF. Desde allí fue cedido al Sabadell, donde apenas tuvo oportunidad de pisar el verde tras sufrir una grave lesión de rodilla. Su última parada antes de llegar al Levante UD fue precisamente el Recreativo de Huelva. Su gran campaña en tierras andaluzas hizo que los granotas se fijasen en él. Actualmente, y pese a la polémica en la que se vio envuelto ‘’Toño’’, los del Ciutat de València han hecho del madrileño uno de sus jugadores emblema.

Dinero, lujos, mansiones, viajes a cualquier parte del mundo… ¿A quién no le gustaría ser futbolista al menos un día de su vida?
Sin embargo, en ocasiones estas personas son traicionadas por aquellos que les rodean. Esos asesores, representantes o falsos amigos que se meten en esa burbuja y terminan por explotártela, haciendo que te des de morros contra el asfalto, que tengas que hacer frente al mundo real. Algo así le sucedió a nuestro protagonista en un año que jamás olvidará: el 2019, un periodo incluso peor que el 2020 para el jugador del Levante. Cuando mejor fútbol estaba realizando, ocurrió algo impensable. Algunas de las malas compañías de ‘’Toño’’ consiguieron que se le acusase de blanqueo de capitales, extorsión, y pertenencia a una organización criminal. La afición granota no daba crédito, sus compañeros tampoco. Nadie entendía nada. ¿Qué estaba pasando?
Pese a que muchísima gente se volcó en redes sociales con el futbolista insistiendo en que esta era inocente, el de Alcalá de Henares tuvo que ingresar en la cárcel de Teruel hasta demostrar que estaba libre de cargos. Tras 21 días entre rejas, fue puesto en libertad. A día de hoy, ha podido volver a sentirse futbolista, pero sostiene que su estancia en ‘’la trena’’ le cambió la vida. Normalmente, se nos olvida que los jugadores profesionales son personas. Es entendible, ya que estos llevan unas vidas de revista. No obstante, como seres humanos que son, les puede pasar lo que al resto: que en cuestión de segundos pasemos del todo a la nada, de la nada al todo… Pues esta montaña rusa no entiende de quién va sentado en sus vagones, ni del dinero que este tenga.

Toño García »is back»: ¿Cómo juega y encaja en este Levante?
Aunque ya pudimos disfrutar de él la temporada pasada, el parón nos impidió ver cuál era su estado de forma real. En este atípico aunque ilusionante año para el Levante UD, el lateral de 30 años se encuentra mejor que nunca. Sus galopadas por el flanco izquierdo, así como su excelente golpeo, son oro puro para los de Paco López.
El Levante es un equipo extraño, capaz de lo mejor y de lo peor. Una ‘’cuadrilla’’ alegre en la que todos se divierten con la pelota, pero en la que pocos saben sufrir para correr tras ella. En esto tiene mucho que ver el míster blaugrana. Un técnico al que le encanta mover las piezas de su conjunto, probar diferentes sistemas… Un tipo, en ocasiones, demasiado atrevido. Actualmente, opta casi siempre por un 4-4-2, en el que la zona de tres cuartos es ocupada en su totalidad por centrocampistas, renunciando a los extremos. Con este planteamiento, el de Silla busca que sus hombres de más calidad, como José Campaña o Rubén Rochina, sean los intérpretes de su peculiar función.
Al meterse estos hacia el medio para así tener un constante contacto con la pelota, los laterales son fundamentales para los de Orriols, pues son los que le dan profundidad al equipo. Ahí, con su gran velocidad y su buen pie para los centros laterales, Toño es hoy uno de los nombres propios de este equipo tan vistoso. Su capacidad de llegar a línea de fondo es vital para el conjunto granota, y es un gran creador de ventajas para un equipo tan atrevido como el del Ciutat de Valencia.
