Nico Melamed ha pasado de ser una promesa del Espanyol y de La Liga Smartbank a convertirse en una realidad. La esperanza de un Espanyol en horas bajas
Desde infantiles ha destacado en las categorías inferiores llamando la atención de grandes de Europa. Es nieto por parte de madre de Felipe Ribaudo. La leyenda de Estudiantes de La Plata compartió vestuario con Carlos Bilardo y Juan Ramón Verón, padre de «La Brujita». Por tanto, Nico Melamed viene de un entorno favorable, en el que se sabe de qué va el fútbol, de la profesionalidad que implica, siendo su padre uno de sus principales apoyos.
Su experiencia fuera del fútbol formativo empieza en la 18/19. El filial comienza a contar con él en la segunda vuelta a sus 17 años. Se hace un habitual ya sea entrando desde el banquillo o de titular. El equipo entrenado por David Gallego, queda quinto a las puertas del play off. Sin embargo, es en la temporada pasada donde se produce la irrupción de Nico Melamed, haciéndose indiscutible. Anota 7 goles con el B y empieza a participar con el primer equipo, a pesar de la mala situación, llegando incluso a debutar en Europa League.

Nico Melamed revoluciona el Espanyol
Debido a su rendimiento, el club le ha renovado hasta 2024, aumentando su cláusula de rescisión de 8 a 15 millones, casi 25 en caso de ascenso a La Liga Santander. Su impacto ya está empezando a notarse con «los pericos». Ha sido decisivo contra el Sabadell y el Cartagena. Frente los catalanes anotó el primer y único gol del partido. En el Cartagonova fue clave en la remontada. El partido iba 1-0, y Nico anotó el gol del empate y forzó el penalti para que Raúl de Tomás anotara el segundo gol, y el equipo ganara 1-3.
El gran problema que tiene Nico Melamed para acumular minutos es la enorme competencia que existe en plantilla. En la posición de mediapunta o segundo interior tiene como principales rivales a Darder y Melendo. Los dos son polivalentes, pero normalmente juegan en esa zona. Otros jugadores como Álex López o Pol Lozano también pueden ocupar esa posición, pero ambos canteranos no han contado con tanta participación.
En banda izquierda también hay una gran competencia. Wu Lei comenzó la temporada como titular, pero no ha convencido. Álvaro Vadillo cedido por el Celta, que no ha rendido debido a las lesiones. ¿Cuál es su encaje en el Espanyol en su lucha por el ascenso?
El Espanyol suele jugar con un 4-2-3-1 con un total dominio del juego. Normalmente tiene la línea defensiva adelantada y debe llevar la iniciativa ante defensas cerradas. Ahí el papel de Nico Melamed es clave a la hora de desatascar partidos. Tal es su importancia que con él en el campo, el Espanyol solo ha perdido un partido en toda la temporada.
Fue contra el Rayo Vallecano, donde Melamed salió en el descanso e Isi Palazón marcó en el minuto 88 el 1-0. Esto muestra que normalmente disputa minutos residuales y a su vez la importancia que tiene para dar la vuelta al marcador cuando las cosas se complican. A pesar de tan solo disputar 38 minutos de media por partido, se ha convertido en el revulsivo más eficiente para Vicente Moreno.

Nico Melamed es un mediapunta natural. En otras palabras, su naturaleza. La parte positiva es que el Espanyol puede ocupar perfectamente los espacios de tal forma que la zona de la mediapunta quede para él.
